For reasons I had yet to explain satisfactorily to myself, “Black Satin” was one of my favorite good mood Miles Davis pieces. Very danceable for those who allowed the music to take control.

Juan-Diego and his partner were totally immersed in the music and the dance. Jazmín and Esteban were keeping their eyes on things. I allowed myself another dance as I monitored those monitoring our security.

The young woman with whom I had been dancing was named Clarice. She touched my face before she left then faded back into the shadows as “Black Satin” whistled, humphed, and squeaked to its finish. She wore a broach that had both black and white diamond shapes set in white gold.
